Divisions
K-VAC®
Additional Information
Kowalski Heat Treating's K-VAC
Division has the capability of processing over 30,000 pounds
of material daily. The vacuum systems installed enable us to
process material up to 42 inches in diameter and 96 inches
long.
Vacuum processing of material enables better surface control
by heat treating material in the absence of air. This
results in no oxidation of the surface. Severe oxidation
will result in scale and decarburization, or loss of carbon.
Vacuum processed material can be pressure quenched from the
austenitizing temperature with gas. Gas quenching is
typically performed with nitrogen, argon, helium, or
hydrogen, or a mix of these gases. 
The two main factors determining quench rates is the gas
velocity and gas pressure. High pressure gas quenching is
used on materials that are normally quenched in oil, but
without the mess and environmental issues. Material that is
processed in vacuum will come out of the furnace with the
surface finish exactly like it went in.
Our 10 bar system was brought on-line in January, 2000 and
we installed the first 20 bar vacuum system in North
America. We have a custom manufactured state of the art
computerized shop floor management system which enables us
to provide total process and heat treat documentation to the
second. All furnaces are equipped with micro-process based
controls for enhanced performance.
K-SALT®
Our K-Salt Division enables us
to process those hard to process materials. We have our own
custom fixturing team to implement new devices to maintain
your tight tolerances while achieving the optimum heat
treating cycle possible. The K-Salt division has the ability
to marquench and austemper to virtually minimize
distortion.
The K-Salt process enables us to control the cooling rate of
crack sensitive material such as high speed steel, and
virtually any other high alloy.
K-GLOW ®
Additional Information
Our
K-GLOW facility includes the state of the art pulsed plasma
ion-nitriding process. This process results in
increased surface hardness, as well as, enhanced wear
resistance with little or no distortion. This K-GLOW
process can be used with any material that is traditionally
gas or salt bath nitrided. See additional information

K-LIFE®
Additional Information
K-LIFE was developed
by Kowalski Heat Treating Company almost 10 years ago. K-LIFE is the solution to costly problems often
experienced in the tooling industries. Through a
revolutionary, unique and highly effective process, K-LIFE
increases the physical properties of your material.
K-LIFE is not a surface coating, or a temporary physical
treatment. In fact, one of the most popular features of
K-LIFE is the ability to re-grind or re-machine when
necessary - without re-treatment. As an additional step in
the heat treating process, our process allows for superior
edge retention, and proven increase in wear resistance.
Whether a high speed tool steel or an oil hardening tool
steel, K-LIFE has been effective in offering new
alternatives to old problems.
Through continuing research, Kowalski Heat Treating Company
has fine-tuned the K-LIFE process. to ensure consistent
processing of your materials, our quality assurance team
conducts uniformity tests on all processed work. You can be
assured of our quality.
K-FLAT®
Additional Information
Our K-Flat services are the answer to your close tolerance,
specialty flatwork. We have developed a consistent system
that is designated to accommodate all varieties, shapes,
sizes and configurations of flat products. Depending on the
specific needs of our customers, we are capable of retooling
quickly, without interruption.
The K-Flat system has been developed its efficiency through
years of testing and fine-tuning. The typical learning curve
commonly associated with specialty work has been eliminated.
Our product advisory group will work hand in hand with your
engineers to analyze the variables involved in your product
development. From resource acquisition to manufacturing and
heat treatment, and ultimately to shipping of your product,
we have the experience you need.
K-LABS®
Kowalski Heat Treating has a fully integrated metallurgical
lab which can tests product to insure the customers
specifications are met.
Kowalski Heat Treating can also perform failure analysis and
microstructure examination.
